6th Grade English Language Arts
6th Grade English is a lively, year-long, self-paced or co-op directed, skill-building course designed to help students ages 11-13 enjoy great stories while learning how to read and write with purpose. Students move through an engaging lineup of literature. Throughout the year, students learn how to notice important details in literature, annotate with purpose, discuss character, setting, conflict, symbolism, and theme, and think about stories through a biblical worldview lens. Writing instruction is highly supported and step-by-step, helping students grow from strong sentences and paragraphs toward literary analysis essays. Weekly vocabulary and grammar practice strengthen word knowledge and sentence skills, while descriptive writing and creative activities help students keep developing their own voices as writers. This course offers a fun, meaningful foundation for middle and high school English while keeping the love of reading alive.
